TRICKSTER'S GIRL is a unique take on the ever-popular dystopian novel. Set in the year 2100, Kelsa is in mourning for her beloved father, who was taken from her by cancer. A chance encounter with a strange, yet handsome, boy convinces her that the leys--underground rivers of energy--have been severely damaged and that Kelsa is the only one who can fix them. This where the dystopian leans more toward fantasy, as the boy, Raven, turns out to be an Indian shape-shifting spirit. Kelsa and Raven then journey across the country, through Canada, and ultimately up to Alaska in search of the perfect nexus points to heal the damaged leys. But, of course, there are those out there who will stop at nothing to keep the leys unfixed, and that includes killing Kelsa in the process.
Although this was a very fantastical--and at times, hard to follow--read, I was strangely fascinated by TRICKSTER'S GIRL. I won't lie. There were times that I was slightly confused, but the writing and the action sequences more than made up for those few moments of head-scratching. All in all, a decent read that I'd recommend to anyone who enjoys fantasy or dystopian.
